Position Information
Position Title: Daily Worker – Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Department | Female Candidates Only
Location: Qamishli
Expected Level of Effort: Approximately 30 working days, distributed throughout the period from 1 October 2026 to 30 June 2027, with the possibility of minor adjustments depending on operational needs.
Direct Supervisor: MEAL Officer
Transportation: Badael does not provide transportation to or from activity implementation sites. The daily worker will therefore be responsible for arranging and covering her own transportation.

Badael is a Syrian rights-based NGO founded in 2013 with a mission to foster transformative justice as the foundation for genuine and sustainable peace in Syria. This is done by supporting people-led movements, structures, narratives, and discourses that enable self-determination, equal rights, truth, and the reimagining of transformation. Championing locally owned alternatives, Badael endeavors to buttress the scope and impact of inclusive grassroots civic action and foment the development of holistic truth and understanding within and around the Syrian context. As our name suggests, developing viable alternatives is at the core of our philosophy. The fundamental values underpinning this philosophy are intersectional feminism, grassroots and rights-based approach, with a focus on Syria’s excluded majority (especially women, youth and people with disabilities), and fostering critical and creative thought.
General Overview
Badael is currently looking for a Daily Worker – MEAL to support the MEAL Department in data collection, processing, and analysis, as part of a peacebuilding project focused on supporting women-led local dialogues and strengthening social cohesion in Syria.
About the MEAL Department
The MEAL department is responsible for independently monitoring the progress of projects and programs implemented by Badael as well as evaluating their overall effectiveness, impact, and sustainability. This helps to ensure knowledge management and that lessons learned contribute to the project and the organization’s evidence-based decision-making. Its team is responsible for tracking the progress of activities and deliverables throughout the implementation period and assessing their results, outcomes and impact by the end of the interventions. The department is also responsible for supporting upward and downward accountability (donors and right holders, respectively) through the development of donor reports, as well as complaints and response mechanisms and tools.
About the Position: MEAL Daily Worker
Under the direct supervision of the MEAL Officer, the MEAL Daily Worker will play an important role particularly in field-level data collection, data processing, database entry, data cleaning and analysis, and other related MEAL tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular field visits to project activities and engage with rights holders to monitor activities and provide verbal and written feedback and reports to the direct supervisor.
- Collect qualitative and quantitative data in coordination with the project team through field visits, surveys, focus group discussions (FGDs), interviews, and other relevant data collection methods.
- Coordinate with rights holders during data collection while adhering to principles of confidentiality, informed consent, data protection, and ethical data collection.
- Transcribe, process, and clean collected quantitative and qualitative data in accordance with approved tools and procedures.
- Coordinate with relevant MEAL and project team members to ensure timely access to, processing, cleaning, and entry of data into databases.
- Contribute to ensuring the quality of collected data in terms of completeness, reliability, validity, timeliness, and integrity.
- Actively participate in monitoring and follow-up meetings with the project team, as well as relevant MEAL Department meetings with the direct supervisor.
- Contribute to the systematic and organized analysis of collected data.
- Contribute to identifying stories of change, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Maintain regular, effective, and timely communication with the MEAL and project teams.
- Provide support to other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant practical experience.
- At least one year of experience in MEAL or project implementation.
- Experience in data collection using methods such as interviews, focus group discussions, observation, surveys, and facilitation of similar activities is required.
- Basic knowledge of monitoring and evaluation tools and frameworks, research methods, data quality, and quantitative and qualitative data analysis is an asset.
- Strong writing and information organization skills, with a high level of attention to detail, are required.
- Strong social awareness and cultural sensitivity, with good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds, are highly desirable.
- Ability to synthesize different types of information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to adapt and work under deadlines, both independently and as part of a team.
- Previous experience working with civil society organizations, including NGOs, non-profit organizations, or grassroots organizations, is an asset.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), is required, with good working knowledge of Excel for data entry and organization.
- Fluency in Arabic is required.
- Intermediate to advanced English language skills are an asset.
- Knowledge of the local context and previous experience working in Qamishli are highly desirable.
- Knowledge of and experience in peacebuilding, particularly in strengthening social cohesion, are highly desirable.
- Knowledge and practical application of the Do No Harm approach and ethical data collection principles are highly desirable.
- Willingness to comply with Badael’s policies and principles, including those related to rights holders’ protection, confidentiality, and data protection, is essential.
