This knowledge paper explores what the agricultural crisis can reveal about broader transformations taking place within local communities in rural Hama. Focusing on Morek, Suran, and al-Saan, the paper examines how agriculture serves as a space where questions of livelihoods, trust, cooperation, collective decision-making, and social organisation intersect. Drawing on a qualitative methodology rooted in lived experiences and simulation games, the paper traces the formation of agricultural knowledge and explores how communities navigate scarcity, uncertainty, and competing interests. It considers how agriculture can serve as an entry point for understanding governance, social cohesion, and peacebuilding in conflict-affected settings.
